Investment reporting and monitoring had become a balancing act at Pontos. The number of private funds was increasing, Excel files were stretching to their limits. The manual consolidation of liquid assets reports drained both time and energy and important figures were updated with a delay. For Tom Järvi, CFO at Pontos, this wasn’t sustainable. “It wasn’t just about the workload,” he explains. “We didn’t have the visibility we needed to steer with confidence.”
Pontos’ biggest bottleneck was private fund reporting. Since data was only updated on demand, it made it difficult to get a timely view of performance and cash flows. At the same time, liquid asset reporting was handled manually in different places, leading to duplicated work and the risk of errors.
The team needed a solution that fit an investment company of their size, agile enough to adapt, but robust enough to handle the complexity of private assets. Automatic data imports were non-negotiable, and the system had to provide coverage across both private funds and the international subsidiaries within the group.
Jay stood out by combining all of this in one platform, backed by analysts who could respond quickly and reliably. “The mix of technology and people made the difference,” says Julia Hakulinen, Business Controller at Pontos. “After testing the system and seeing the results, we knew we could trust them to get things done.”
With Jay’s reporting portal, Pontos finally stepped off the spreadsheet treadmill. Manual work dropped, accuracy improved, and private funds could be monitored continuously instead of only on demand.
“Now we can check yield figures and cash flow forecasts whenever we need them,” says Tom. “It makes decision-making so much faster.”
The new setup also gave the management team a clearer lens on the company’s international structure. By building portfolio views by country and subsidiary, each board now gets tailored, transparent reporting.
Even small touches mattered. Adapting the portal with Pontos’ own colors and logo turned it from just another system into something that felt like part of their identity, a detail that boosted adoption and satisfaction across the team.
Since implementing Jay’s solution, Pontos has:
"The system solved our key challenges. Reporting is faster, the data is better, and we can focus on content instead of mechanics,” Tom says.
The journey doesn’t stop here. Next on the agenda for Pontos are scenario models for cash flow forecasting, new risk management tools, and deeper portfolio analytics by currency.
“The basics are in place,” Julia reflects.“The real value now is in building scenarios and preparing for the future.”
